Need some more powerpop sensations ?? Here's the first album of The Girls, in fact 2 girls and 3 guys from Colombus Ohio. Founded in 2011 by guitarist Joey Blackheart from punk band the Gallows, bassist Big Nick and guitarist-singer Jessica Wabbit, the band also includes Ryan Viles and Bent from The Reacharounds and Raeghan Savage as background vocals and glamourous dancing tambourin girl! Jessica Wabbit was member of the family band Carson Drew with her father and sisters (one of them is the alt country singer Lydia Loveless). If you like the Gogo's, Wednesday Week or The Fastbacks, The Girls are for you. Power pop with much power and great female vocals, like the Sugar Stems but a kind of Sugar Stems who met each-others in a bikers'bar, if you see what I mean!! Jessica is a talentuous songwriter, writing songs about ex-boyfriends and broken hearts with great sincerity, songs like "Radio", Annie" or "Mesmerize" get straight into your head and stay there all the day! In a better world, "Keys to Your House" will hit the charts! Music keeps the best of 70's Powerpop, and 60's Beat, and never hesitates to get rougher ("Take your feelings and go"). Definitely, one of the best surprise of 2014!

Avec un nom pareil, on pourrait s'attendre à un girl-group mais à voir la dégaine de biker de Joey Blackheart (guitariste), on hésitera à le traiter de "fillette". Le groupe s'est en fait monté en 2011 autour de cet ancien vétéran punk et de Jessica Wabbit, petit bout de femme ayant déjà exercé son talent avec père et soeurs dans Carson Drew. Avec d'autres musicien de Colombus, Ohio, le combo à trouver sa formule définitive en 2011 avec l'ajoût de Raeghan Savage (Dead Girlfriends) au tambourin et choeurs, dont la dégaine destroy tranche avec celle tout en retenue de Jessica. Cet album autoproduit, en vinyle rouge, est une vrai bonne surprise, avec 11 titres de powerpop bien composés qui rappelle un peu des Sugar Stems un peu plus punchy ou les Fastbacks. Si vous n'êtes pas encore convaincu, The Girls reprennent le "Whole Wide World" de Wreckless Eric !
